LAKSHY DREAM FOUNDATION acknowledges the fact that education is not equally accessible to all sections of the society in India. Under Project Drishti, we aim to bridge this gap between the privileged and underprivileged children.
Despite measures taken by the Government of India to encourage children to attend school such as mid-day meals and the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (2009), the ground reality leaves much to be desired. The state of government education in the country is such that even after completing five to six years of education, about 30 percent of the children remain illiterate.
Children of government schools also lack the following -
Soft skills like punctuality, neatness and discipline
proper learning infrastructure
accountability of teachers
conducive learning environment
At LAKSHY DREAM FOUNDATION we started working on the cause of education for the underprivileged with informal classes and gradually moved to more organized and regular classes which also include the topics of holistic development of cognitive and behavioral aspects of the child. Apart from basic education, we also teach concepts of good manners, hygiene and cleanliness, kindness, gender sensitization, good and bad touch as well as storytelling, arts, crafts and coding. We also try to increase their political awareness and make them aware about their right to vote. We ensure that children who do not have access to gadgets to attend online classes and internet connection are provided with necessary stationery items and books.
We primarily work for children from urban and rural slums, government schools and low-income families. We believe that through Drishti project the crime rate can also be reduced and the rate of development of these children can be increased.
Every child deserves education and we strive to broaden the ambit of this belief. Due to the initiative taken by Lakshya Dream Foundation, beneficiaries like Rohit are well aware of the magic words like "Please, Sorry and Thank You" and use them in everyday conversation.
