Emotional intelligence isn't about not feeling negative emotions.
It's about what you do with them when they inevitably come.
I was at dinner with someone a while back.
Beautiful, successful, confident.
Genuinely warm to everyone around them all night.
Then the server came over and said the kitchen had closed before they could order dessert.
And something shifted.
The warmth drained out of the room instantly.
A different person showed up.
Making a scene over a slice of cake.
The server, who had been so warmly greeted an hour earlier, stood there visibly uncomfortable.
And I've never forgotten it.
Real EQ shows up in the moments that don't go your way.
Green flags of someone who actually has it:
→ They can be angry and still be kind
→ They can be hurt and still stay curious
→ They can be certain and still be listening
Nobody is immune to hard feelings.
But not everyone has learned what to do with them.
That gap is where emotional intelligence lives.
